Chasing Archaeology
Komodo Island peninsula off the coast of Flores
CITIZEN SCIENCE
I'm pursuing two parts of the archaeological story, mainly because there hasn't been much formal research in those areas, and it is something I can achieve as a person who isn't part of a research institute.
Hobbits. How did they arrive on Flores and where did they come from?
What an astounding tale - a tiny hominid species living isolated on Flores for over a million years. I've had the great pleasure of spending time with Mike Morwood and his team during archaeology digs at Liang Bua cave and Soa Basin in 2009, 2011 and 2012. And why was I first invited? To build a dunny (toilet) at the Soa Basin dig site. Read more here.
First human arrivals. How did people first arrive in Australia? It was through the island chain to the north, that has never been a landbridge in human history.I live and work with Aboriginal people in the centre of Australia, surely as far from xxx as you can get. So how did people first arrive in Australia? It was through the island chain to the north - the vast archapeligo that has nver been a landbridge in human history.
. to Those remarkable people were the world's first mariners, ultimately crossing the sea gap to an unpopulated Australia and Papua New Guinea, 50,000 years before the Americas were settled.

Complete World of Human Evolution
Chris Stringer & Peter Andrews (2012)
This is a fabulous book that describes the history of Human Evolution in 2-page topics. It is in relatively simple language for those with some background knowledge.

This excellent book is written by Mike Morwood, the lead archaeologist of the discovery team.
The book is co-written by accomplished science author Penny van Oosterzee from my home state of the Northern Territory in Australia.
Discovery of the Hobbit
Mike Morwood & Penny van Oosterzee (2007)
This is the same book as 'Discovery of the Hobbit', renamed for the American market. It was updated in 2009 with further information.
